Ruthie - 4 year old female Staffie

Ruthie, Staffie, DOB 07 – Gatwick, Surrey

Homing Requirements: Ruthie is a bigger Staffie. She needs dog experienced owner with loving kindness as she has had harsh treatment judging by her shyness on raised voices and injury on being surrendered. Ruthie can live with young children and a male dog who has lived with another dog before. She doesn't deserve people to be learning to manage 2 dogs at her expense, she has that T-Shirt.

Her Story: Ruthie was owned by a family with young children. A puppy was introduced when she was 2 years old. After a year, as the young Staffie was coming into adulthood, the 2 unspayed bitches had a fight. The other dog not presented to vets for treatment but the family wanted Ruthie put to sleep. The vet suggested attending training classes and if it didn't work, to re-home one of the two dogs. A year later they came back saying they had tried to re-home and wanted Ruthie put to sleep. The vet got her signed over to them. Ruthie had an injury on her head synonymous with being hit with a heavy object. Ruthie came into our rescue and had a successful Xmas foster place with another male Staffie and a young 4 year old child. She is now in kennels in Gatwick.

Advert: Ruthie is a softie. A little nervous by nature but this is more shyness of dominant humans and of new experiences that she isn't accustomed to e.g. the car which she is now happy to board. Ruthie is not confident in kennels but wonderful once past their walls. Ruthie walks really well on the lead and enjoys the companionship of her 'family'. She meets people and dogs well, will sit at the hint of a treat and offer paw. Ruthie is excellent around children accepting with subservience. Ruthie is comfortable with dogs. The only mishap in foster was an argument over a stick, in the first few days but easily resolved. She is receptive and respectful. Ruthie is a dream in the home; very comfortable and relaxed company. She needs good quality food to nourish her, a good exercise regime and would enjoy closeness.

Ruthie is a large brindle Staffie girl who has come into her own skin but is out of kilter in rescue as she hasn’t had the stability of caring owners as a foundation to her self-confidence. She quickly trusts and impresses all. She loves to sit on your lap or by your feet in a comfy bed. With reassurance and a gentle voice, Ruthie has to be one of the easiest dogs to manage. She needs reassurance and she is there offering you her heart and everything she owns ... and that is a very big heart!
