"Desperate times calls for desperate measures"

I`m posting this on behalf of a lady I know well who has instigated some fab fundraisers online for dog rescues. I can assure readers, Denese [ aka Our Little Godsend ], is absolutely genuine, I have known her for quite some time and she really is one very lovely lady.
I hope people will pledge some squiddlies for this incredibly selfless fundraiser which she is doing totally herself on this occasion - please read, and please give as generously as you can, every single squidly counts

March I intend having my head shaved only to a
number 1 though :P in order to raise funds for Hope
Rescue This is a big thing to me because I have
quite long hair (at the moment it is around 19inches)
and I have never ever had it shorter than shoulder
length.

This is long and it is important to me that I tell you
why I am doing this and why I am doing this for Hope
Rescue in particular.

Since transporting primarily for Hope Rescue, I have
learned a lot about what they do. I believe that many
people don't know and as I am asking for your
sponsorship and support I feel that it is important
that I give you that information.

Hope Rescue is not a rescue that was originally set up
to take in/rehome dogs. They are a rescue that
primarily take in dogs in emergency situations -
strays from the pounds who have completed their 7 days
and dogs that have been handed in by their owners
Hope also take from other rescues, many of which
if I said their name, you would know.

Many of the dogs move straight from the pound into
rescue, but many more temporarily come into their
care, particularly if time is of the essence and no
rescue space is available. During this time the dogs
are held in holding kennels until a secure place is
found with a reputable rescue. They will usually
vaccinate and neuter these dogs, as well as take care
of any medical problems. The dogs who are lucky enough
to get themselves a secured space are then transported
all over the country.

Hope Rescue also found it necessary to move into
rehoming, as it was particularly difficult to place
some of the older or poorly/wonky dogs, and they also
struggled placing certain breeds, in particular bull
breeds.

So here is my point and my reasons why I'm doing this
sponsorship/fundraiser. For everything mentioned in
the above paragraph, Hope pays out a lot of money (the
figures below will make your jaw drop). Hope Rescue
only keep a few dogs in foster to try to rehome them
themselves, the adoption fees for those few come to
nowhere near what is needed to pay for what they do.
Basically, for want of better words everything Hope
does is "dead money" i.e. not everything they do can
be clawed back by way of adoption fees. So how do Hope
survive? Basically, a mixture of hard work i.e.
bootsales, stalls at shows, various fundraisers on the
forums and the generosity of those who feel that what
Hope does is worthwhile.

Now to the facts. The main reason I decided to do this
fundraiser is that just over a week ago Vanessa of
Hope Rescue made the hardest decision she has ever had
to make. She was forced to close Hope's doors to any
more dogs for the period of a month The reasons
for this are simple, firstly there is no room in
boarding. It is full to the brim and with half term
approaching. Very few rescues are accepting bull
breeds (I'm sure many rescues can relate to that one)
and at the time we had 17 bull breeds taking up
boarding with nowhere to go. In addition, we have
other breeds of dogs waiting too. Average boarding
fees are currently in the region of £1,200 per month,
although they have been as high as £500+ per week.

Last months vets fees were £2,500 for their own vet,
not to mention the vets fees for the dogs in foster.
The amount of dogs Hope rehomed and received a
donation for barely touched the tip of that iceberg
The past few months a number of very sick dogs
have arrived.

Betty rescued from a pound on the request of another
rescue as they were full. Betty was very sick but is
now in her perfect home.

2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks were surrendered and came in
via a dog warden. One of them had a bad leg and
treatment was required. Treatment was given at great
expense and then they were handed over to a breed
rescue as this would give them their best opportunity
of rehoming. Not one penny was reclaimed.

Hi everyone

As Patch was kind enough to post this thread, I thought it only fair that I let you all know that I went ahead and did the headshave on Saturday (21st April).

Despite being nervous beforehand it all went smoothly and I must say I'm happy with the result

We anticipate that my headshave has raised over £1,500, but we won't know for sure until all the monies are in as people are still sending some just because they saw the piccies and thought it was worth a few bucks

I'm waiting to hear about the final figure atm and will announce it asap, but if anyone does pledge a little more and Patch up's her pledge then that would be absolutely fantastic The funds have taken a hammering lately One of the expenses (£100) was a transport run Mr OLG had to personally do. He took 2 Staffies to Cumbria the other day (600 mile round trip), simply because we could not get the transport links and they were the only 2 spaces we could find for these babies (rescue spaces for staffies are like hens teeth) The following day 7 more dogs had to be moved to various places in Devon/Cornwall - another £100 and another 400 miles

It doesn't go far does it? But trust me when I say, every penny helps
