URGENT WARNING TO ALL RESCUES: PLEASE CIRCULATE TO ALL YOUR RESCUE CONTACTS AND COLLEAGUES:

Yesterday we had a guy from "Scruples Whippet Rescue" enquiring about any young whippets needing homes through our [a social network] page. On closer inspection of his [a social network] page he has listed one of his interests and activities as pitbull fighting and we believe he is in search of a dog to use as bait.

His name is MICHAEL ANTHONY BURDIS and he lives in Doncaster.

Please be
aware if this person approaches you. Here is a link to his [a social network] page.
Maybe you can use a photo and email it to other rescues local to you.
Please help us to ensure this person never gets the chance to own a dog to
use as bait.

Thats good of you to let us know, there are some evil people out there

I saw this happen on the Scruples page. Pitbull fighting and dog fighting listed publicly as interests (since removed) when enquiring with a dog rescue. Not good.

I've just cross posted this to a sighthound forum I belong to and there are othere members who belong to other forums too so hopefully this evil scum will be stopped

Has anyone informed the police? If he is actively listing his interest in pitbull fighting, I would hope that they would wish to investigate.

I believe the RSCPA were notified and were investigating. He quickly removed the dog fighting interests though so it could just be down to his word.

This is the latest statement from Scruples Whippet Rescue who have nothing to do with this guy.

There is currently a statement being posted all over [a social network] about a Michael Burdis. It is claimed that the statement was written by Scruples Whippet Rescue and is badly written and reads like Michael is a volunteer for us. The statement was NOT written by any member of the Scruples team.

Michael Burdis is NOT in any way a Volunteer for Scruples or in any way associated with our Rescue. He wrote on our [a social network] page last week enquiring about young dogs and was REFUSED a dog and was BLOCKED from our page due to his dog fighting links. This man is currently under investigation by the RSPCA .
All our Volunteers are very strictly vetted and home checked and Scruples Whippet Rescue will not have, and never have had anything to do with anyone involved in the barbaric illegal activity that is dog fighting.

We are very concerned that this badly worded statement that has been written by someone unknown to Scruples is making people believe that we are involved with Michael and his activities and we are asking all [a social network] groups to delete the incorrect post and post and share this statement instead.
