Merseyside Dogs home's longest serving inmate has finally found a new owner

Staff at the Merseyside Dogs Home are celebrating after their longest staying resident found a new home.

Fur Cotton was brought into the Halewood rescue centre after being found as a stray on Norton Street in Widnes last June.

For almost a year fellow abandoned dogs came and went at the centre as they found new homes.

But no one came forward to give a home to Fur, a three-year-old Staffie cross.

Staff at the centre put out a desperate appeal on social media for a new home for her this week and she has now found an owner.

Paul Dunne, manager at the dogs home, said: “Perhaps people are put off by her colour or that she may be a Staffie cross, but underneath she is a lovely dog.

“Fur Cotton might look like your average kennel dog but she has hidden depths, a good sense of fun and always keen to please.

“She is our longest staying dog and we can’t believe it. She has a fantastic foundation of basic training; we often take her out and about to Pickering’s Pasture, Formby and Otterspool where she plays off lead with her toys and other dogs.”
