As I have some friends who are true Romany Gypsies I am actually offended by the programme

If they had called it My Big Fat Irish Traveller Wedding that would have been far more acceptable as they are the people being shown in the programme. As yet they haven't even shown any Gypsies

There is a petition running by the Gypsy community to get the programme stopped, that is how angry they are about it!

Having said all that we do watch it purely so we can laugh at the ridiculous dresses Just goes to show money can't buy you taste

I agree I feel quite offended too as a descendent of Romany gypsies. My grandmother, and her family were all true Romany gypsies, not what you are seeing in this program.

I have watched it, and while i think it is good and interesting to see the different ways people do things... i find it very sad. The way the women are treated, kids leaving school early and taking care of the caravan and their sibling, them not being able to read and write etc... just dont think that is right at all.

Thankfully not much of Appleby was shown, i hate how they treat the horses... ive seen it a few times on animal programmes and it is disgusting!

True - it`s a load of Irish travellers, tinkers and chavs. But I think most people realise that.

I watched it, I find it intresting to see how others live, must admit I don't like grabbing, and how the little girls were dancing, but I loved the cake, and admired the girl who helped make it, how she stayed in school and got a job, it must of taken guts for to do that, the dresses, well I liked the recent one with the silver rose, but wouldn't like to wear any of them, I'd rather not risk getting scars from an item of clothing, but each to their own and all that.

I have to say I did find the young children gyrating in a very sexual manner quite disturbing. That did make for uncomfortable viewing and I do agree the 'grabbing' of the girls for a kiss was awful too.

I do think that all this talk of the girls having very high morals and making them out to be virtuous is a bit unbelievable IMO. I mean on the one hand they have footage of kids aged about 8 bumping and grinding like porn-stars or strippers (and dressed like them too) and as they grow up they wear less - and then we are supposed to believe that they have the morals of a nun? I don't buy it myself - seems to me the community has insisted on this fact being portrayed to the public to make them be seen in a better light.

The footage of the dresses and cakes were hilarious though, totally laugh-out-loud stuff!!

I admired that girl who worked in the cake shop and wanted to be independent too. She was in such a minority thought wasn't she? The rest of them seem to 'accept their fate' so to speak.

Or......

My Big Fat Tax Free Life

God if I think what I could do with that big 25% chunk of money that goes to the government I'm sure I could afford all the things they show on that programme!

I liked her, i thought it was great that she wanted to get a job, and stayed in education longer than the rest... and when they went to the paintball she had to fill out all the forms coz the rest couldnt read but she could.
