What to do if a dog is choking

We had a bit of an incident last night with Joey choking on something. Initially he was licking his lips and swallowing very hard like he had something stuck. Both OH and I tried to look into his mouth/throat to see if we could see any obstruction and remove it but neither of us could find anything. Eventually Joey managed to sick up what it was and he was fine.

My question is, in case this happens again, is there anything we can do if a dog is choking and the obstruction cannot be seen? Apart from go to the vets of course!

Thanks in advance.

If you go on to a FA course you will be taught how to do this.
