Got my 8 week old puppy a week ago. She's crated at the side of the bed. First couple of nights I put my arm down to the side of the crate for two or three minutes until she snuggled down. She whines to go out once during the night (I go to bed around midnight and she gets me up at 6 am) and then goes back in without a problem.

She'll sleep where she chooses when she gets older and no longer needs the crate, but if I wanted to move her out of the bedroom, I'd move the crate a few inches at a time once she was used to sleeping well and going through the night until she was out of the bedroom and where I wanted her to be
