Bear toilet issues

Ok I'm new here and teddy is my first dog.... He's a teddy bear dog and I'mhhaving a little problem potty training him since we switched the newspaper to a dog toilet.. Originally Ileft this giant teddy bear in his bed so he would think he has company aand not pee into the bed but off late he's been fighting with it and since it does take up a lot of space I decided to remove it.. I now though since he's being house trained he should be going potty on the toilet which he poops on but pees on the bed.. I actually caught him in the act and gave him a little beating.. Used the toilet the next time but went back to wetting the bed the next day... I need some help some advice on getting him back on the right track..

I'm sure you'll get expert advice. My advice is stop beating your dog.

Punishing your dog for toileting in the inappropriate place only teaches the dog one thing........

It is dangerous to eliminate aywhere around you.

We do not beat toddlers for having accidents, and we should not be doing that to anything we love.

Have a look here for some help

Really.... Shouldn't be beating him for that huh.... Ok I got it cause I was wondering why he seems to take longer than normal after eating or even why he goes so quickly while I'm not looking... So I'm really not helping the bond between us huh... Anything I can to to help teddy trust me again enough to potty while I'm looking

Read the above links, if your dog makes a mistake, ignore it.

Reward with treats, verbal praise, body contact when he does it in the appropriate place.

This will make it more likely that you are both successful and you have mutual trust.

Good luck.

Hi Sukuya,
I have just got a puppy so I am going through the house training too. I take my pup outside every time he wakes up, about 10-15 mins after he has eaten and every 45mins to an hour throughout the day. He has been pretty good so far, only had a few accidents. The accidents he has had, I have ignored and took him outside and cleaned it up.

In the night in his crate he has been completely dry but I have been getting up every 2-3 hours and taking him out to pee. Which he does straight away in the garden.

I would wash his bed or even change it for a different style of bed so he doesn't associate it with toileting.

Punishing him for accidents will only make him distrust you as he doesn't understand why your behaving that way and he will just toilet in places he shouldn't when you aren't looking.

Ok I'm hearing you guys loud and clear.... Do have another question though.. I'm at work all day most days so I've been using this confinement idea I got online about keeping him in an enclosed space not a cage... I'm using small fences and it was working now up to this point, but just wondering if any one of you guys do this.. The Chinese here do it and get to the point where their dogs use their potty very efficiently while roaming freely around the house... That's what I'm hoping to achieve is anyone here on that level?

Not sure a puppy is the best thing for someone who is at work all day. They need a lot of time and attention.
Even an older dog doesn't like to be left on it's own all day. Does someone come in to look after it while you're at work?
