have you ever heard or seen this?

hi All

I took Luna, a 1 year old choc lab, to the vet today because I think she is walking pretty stiff on her hind legs. The vet told me that Luna is (directly translated from danish) "steep angled" - she is not using her knees.

It sounded as if it was pretty common, but I have never heard of it before. Have any of you heard or seen this?

Jeanette

Check out this link at the Animal Clinic: http://www.animalclinic.com/luxpatel.

The Animal Clinic
The patella, or knee cap, should be located in the center of the knee joint. The term "luxating" means out of place or dislocated. Therefore, a luxating patella is a knee cap that moves out of its normal location.

Sounds more like a lack of angulation to me, i.e. lacking turn of stifle and rather weak in the upper & lower thigh.

Hi All

Bon:
Unfortunately there is repair on the site, so can't use the link. But she is not hurting and according to the vet it isn't an injurie (or that's what I thought I heard)

Carole: I'm thinking of consulting another vet in the area to hear his opinion. And I would like to read up on it, so I'm going to the library tomorrow to borrow a book about the labrador to see if they mention it.

Shadowboxer: That does sound kind of like that, but she doesn't seem weak in her thigh, I actually think she is very muscular. But thats just me.

I was at dog training this morning, and nobody there had heard about it either. Of course this is a mix of dogs not an all labrador course, because they focus too much on the hunting part. My girl is not used for hunting, so I would rather train other things important to me such as recall, sit, stay, and all those things.
