Hazel.

Thankyou for replying to post.

I have teached search to a teabag and this is something they really enjoy and pick out a toy by name. I have only teach them to locate my mum or one of the other paws

I will have to have a go at unpegging the washing and put it in the basket. (on a small line)

How does Ziggie do skipping?

What a clever boy Ziggie is?

"bowled up" and Knockdown sound like fin and really grt ideas.

What do you mean Apport? How is this trained?

I think to find a paticular smell is really interesting.

I have teached mine to retrieve named articles.

I train Belgian Ring the oldest policedog training program and this with the only breed capable off doing it at a high level the Malinois. It takes up to 3 years to get the dog fully trained to compete. exceptions can be trained in about 2 years. My oldest dog 29 months isn't good enough to compeet so i've started all over with a puppy who now is 14 weeks and is coming in to one off the most dangerous periodes namely teething. if he gets trough this periode he'll do fine. Modern patroldog training is all derived from this. Apport= retrieve
Forward is very easy to train. You take his favorit toy and put it somewhere. You point your dog towards it from a few meters and give the order. in time you increase the distance and replace the toy with some saucage and when he is good at it you leave the saucage also.

Finding something with a particular smell is normaly don with the body odor off the handler but i've been lucky to have had the oportunity to do it with several drugs. Canabis, Cocaine and heroine. Once you have a sample for him to sniff at he will identify the odor.

Greetings

Johan

Hiya Min,
Yep ziggie is my star! He's a fantastic dog to train. To do the skipping I tought him first to bounce (on cue) then transfered this to bouncing whenever I did (thats the stage moses has reached) then i have him infront of me, when i jump the rope he bounces as well - it's easy to teach and looks very impressive as long as you get the timing right .
I get the clicker magazine and some of the clicker challenges are fantastic, i've leant them to a friend but when i get them back i'll be able to post loads of fresh ideas - theres some subscribers that really think around the box!

H. thank you for your post.

I will have to see if I can get a bounce on cue

I think clicker training is a whole lot of fun

Look forward to hearing about idears of things we could train.

What other things have you tried to teach using ideas from the clicker magazine.

Well we appear stupid compared to Kickstartkelpie and SB

Basic obedience

Stand/Sit/Down out of motion from heel (all speeds)
Down/Sit/Stand out of motion on recall
Sendout
Ground Search
Follow
Heel on the right
Retrieve on the flat and over the high

Tracking

Agility

Freestyle:
Stup (not stop ) - go between my legs and sit there
Weave through my legs while I'm walking
8 - weave through my legs in a figure of eight while I'm standing still
Around - circle round me
Fuss/heel - move from my left to my right and vice versa when I'm standing still, moving, and used as a pull out from when he's between my legs
Back up - heeling backwards, from a front position, and from between my legs
Front - follow me in a front position
Leg - jump over the leg held out closest to him
Out - go under and leg held out
Paws Up - put his paws on my knee
Spin

Basic Tricks:
Beg
Speak
Roll over
Bow
Paw
High-5
Bring me your ball or tugger
Knee and Under - used when I'm sitting down and have my knees bent in a A, he squeezes under them, then jumps back over them

He can also ride a skateboard (funniest thing you've ever seen )

And thanks, this thread has given me ideas

Apport is retrieve... Well I translate it to that.. We do apport here.

We stand with the dog sitting on your left. Throw a dummy and send the dog out to get the dummy, run back and sit infront of you with the dummy. Let the dog sit and hold for a few seconds, take the dummy and that's an apport

Atleast in my club

Well Hazel and SB and everyone else really..

Now we know what your dogs can do.. But how do you teach them???

I want to teach Luna some tricks and how to play...

I was asked at agility on monday night, what makes Luna "tick/turn on" and I have no idea.. A tennisball is fun.. for 2 throws..

A tug... hmm I have to teach her to tug, as untill now she's been told to let go (the apport/retrieve thingy)

So any good tips on how to teach a dog to play and learn new tricks
