Mother shot dead after cop misses 'growling dog'

WHY are they so trigger happy in America?

Horrifying moment cop shot dead mom-of-three when he slipped and missed while trying to shoot the family's 'growling' pet dog

Autumn Steele, 34, was accidentally shot dead when police officer Jesse Hill slipped over while aiming at the family dog.

Cop was responding to a domestic dispute at the house and found Steele and husband Gabriel in a bitter row.

Body cam footage shows him trying to intervene as the couple's dog growled in the background.

Hill warned Steele to get her German Shepherd which he claimed was biting him.

But footage shows cop falling back as two shots ring out - one of which hit and killed Steele.

Well he was damned if he did and damned if he didn't. The dog is the owners responsibility, so don't put the dog in a situation where the police will shoot cos they might just get the owner instead. Yes it's terrible but shooting a dog for growling would be terrible too yet somehow more acceptable?

I don't think it's more acceptable - just as outrageous. I think that is the point the OP was trying to make too.

But seen as more acceptable to both the police and by standers.

No I think it was horrific he was going to shoot the dog for growling, and if he hadn't had a gun, or taken the gun out to shoot the poor dog, then the woman wouldn't be dead either. Cannot understand why he was so quick to pull his gun out actually

Makes me think actually - tasers! Wonder if they could be used here too - instead of what I think the currently policy is that they can be shot if "showing signs of aggression" - which a very large percentage of dogs would do if someone broke into their own.
