My OH has a veg plot - I tend to stick with the flower beds though lol. He's never had a problem with potatoes taking over the garden, and has them in your average veg bed.

He has spent a couple of years putting a LOT of muck into it all, which is the big thing, I think..

He also grows a few things in pots - courgettes do very well. Sam, 3 year old, also has his own small veg plot, which he loves! He grew carrots in his last year and none of them made the kitchen as they were all eaten raw, straight from the ground lol.

Even though I don't do the work, it is a really nice feeling, going out and picking the veg that you need for cooking.

If there are cats around, be sure to cover your carrots with netting!!

I have successfully grown them over the years (without the netting), however, we got my daughter a cat last year....... and my carrots failed miserably

She decided that my carrot patch was a cat litter tray, and I caught her weeing all over them !!

Apparently cats are attracted to the smell.
