Herding

Well - After a 18 months break (from a one of session that accomplished nothing!) Siren started herding training properly today.....

I was a bit worried that either her instinct would be less or not as able to come out due to her other training, but it seems to have been the opposite and given her a good grounding and quite a lot of sense (according to the instructor!)

It was great when she was working with him, but as soon as I was there she just wanted to bring the sheep to me.....which ended up with both of us running round in circles which must have looked quite hilarious!! Luckily I have no pictures of that!!

Sorry for the quailty - took out my little P&S and the weather was not great!

Walking on

Working out...

..and finally stopping....(It took a while!)

Needless to say we both loved it and are signed up for more!

Thanks - No - she was actually really quick to turn if one of them was breaking. It must have been very confusing for her when I was not moving right as they were all over me!
It looked so neat when the instructor was doing it - she was circling perfectly and the sheep were neatly between him and her - then he would turn her and it would all work the other way.....

Then I got in the way and it all went horribly wrong! Poor Siren - she knows what to do but her Mums and idiot! (who is not great at left and right!)

Oh she looks great in those pics, I would LOVE to try herding one day. I even bought a shepherd's whistle for fun, and can even make it squeak (a bit, lol).

It was SO much fun. We had a long talk about what I wanted to do and (if) I wanted to take it anywhere, so we have done the fun bit now we have to start a bit more control stuff....and teaching her to walk straight!

Cool pics. I notice your in cornwall. I've had the odd BC owner ask me were they can go to learn herding but haven't been able to answer, would your instructor be interested in potential business.

He does 1-2-1s as part of his business (he mainly writes) but he trials as well and runs courses as well. I can PM you his website if you like to forward to people.
