My pc is acting up again... Same problem as when I got it...

I thought I would try a resetore to see if that helps.

Will that erase all my pics? I dont have any cd-roms, so cant save them

Can you switch the PC off for a few minutes, then restart it and see it it will detect the card reader (USB card reader ?) then ?

normally it will not erase anything all that can happen is the programs which you have installed after the restore date might not work correctly and you have to install them again

Did it say which virus it was ?

Some viruses do enough damage to the system files that the only way is to re-install the Operating System and applications

Try the online security scanner: http://security.symantec.com/default...d=ie&venid=sym

It is called: Trojan.Win32.Starter. and something else..

But I'm being told its not malicious, so maybe its not to blame.. I'm running a scan of my pc now, but will also use your link.

I still cant get the card reader to work.

If I restored it (If I can be allowed to) would that help? How far back can I go to find a suitable date for the restoration?

The System Restore function only records any changes you have made to your system. This means that if you go back to a restore point, it will try to reset the registry and other pointers to that date, so it should appear that anything you installed after that date will no longer be available.

If the driver file for your card reader has been damaged, System Restore won't make any difference - you might need to re-install the driver (if it had one).

You can try and locate your card reader in the Device Manager and see if Windows thinks it is working properly (or not). You should also be able to roll back the driver to a previous version.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...rrollback.mspx

The number of restore points allowed depends on what amount of disk space has been allocated for it.

The other possibility is that the card reader is no longer working or the USB port it is connected to is no longer working.

I'm sorry but I've tried 5 times and I just cant find the names.. My system names are in danish

Oh well, I'll use the usb cable instead of the cardreader installed in the pc.

Darn it..

Thank you very much for your help
