Mastiff x Rottweiler: why?

Over the last few months I`ve noticed a lot (and I mean a lot) of Mastiff x Rotties advertised. To the extent where they are overtaking the Doodles.
I don`t want to upset the owners of such dogs on here - I am puzzled as to why this cross is being bred. I don`t really see what one brings to the other?
They are similar in size, shape, temperament etc - so what`s the point?
Can anyone tell me?

As I said in another thread about these sort of crosses it's to make money. That's the only reason these sort of crosses are bred on purpose.

Well, yes obviously - but why are they so popular?

Probably Joe Bloggs has a Rottie bitch, his friend has a Mastiff dog, their genius brains put two and two together and decide that a litter will be a nice money earner and voila, more crossbreeds out there for sale.

No it seems to be French Mastiff - which aren`t that common.
So why are people buying them?
I suspect it is to get a bigger Rottie? Is this right do you think?

This would be my guess to be honest.
