Considering how big cow pats are, it would be easy to avoid them surely, anyone letting their dog off lead around cattle is rather foolish anyway, so not sure why it would be difficult to avoid either your dog or yourself stepping in it.

I'm pretty sure its in Holland, where horses have to wear 'nappies' when on the roads.

Jackie, I would suggest you take a walk up on borough hill in Daventry, then you would know how impossible it is to avoid the cow pats - Ben is a smart dog, but not smart enough to know that he mustn't walk on cow pats. It is virtually impossible to avoid them as a human being with a desire to do so.
