"Blaming the dog"

I had this passed on to me today and thought I'd share it. It's a little humourous but also says a lot I think:

http://www.legacycanine.com/tips/inst_clientcomm.html

It's analogies different trainers have used to explain to owners why their dog is not deliberately being "naughty" etc

I should probably explain that this is a trainer to trainer kind of thing, obviously most trainers would be able to tell if a dog is not understanding or is being a teenager, or if there are any real control/obedience problems that do need addressing. The above is for those times when owners are convinced dogs are naughty but are totally wrong.

Excellent.

Reminds of my 'official' first lesson in training way back in the year dot.....when my rescue dog kept running away....theres me looking like an idiot, running after him and screaming Rambooooooooo at the top of my lungs....to no avail....he just ran further away, the trainer (John Hardcastle from Liverpool) asked me "if you were running away and I was chasing you and yelling your name 'in an angry' tone....would you wanna come back" !!!

LOL we've all been there at sometime though haven't we

I love analogies. I know some people hate them, but I think they're great!

Excellent

I find the use of analogy very helpful. It can often get the point across far more quickly and clearly than 'technical' explanations
