Cai - 18 month old Jack Russell Terrier x Daxie in South Wales

Cai is a 1 year old Jack Russell Terrier x Dachshund who is currently on foster in Ystrad Mynach.

The Cai Fact File
Dog status: Very good with dogs his own size
Cat status: May be cat workable in the right home
Child status: Good, could be rehomed with children aged 5 years plus
House training: Almost there
Home alone: Will need time left built up. Not suitable for full time workers.
Basic training: Learning the basics
Special Trick: Chasing the mop!

Cai is a cheeky chappy, typical terrier through and through. He is full of character and personality who is basically a blank canvas for his new owners.

Cai came into our care via the local vets with a skin condition brought on by a flea infestation. His skin was sore and infected but a course of baths and steroids has calmed things down and he is now being neutered and will start his vaccinations.

Cai is in foster with other terriers and a larger crossbreed and can be rehomed with canine company or as the only dog in his new home. He is excitable around other dogs and forever on the go which may mean that older or timid dogs may not appreciate a young ruffian in the house. He is playful and has no issues with the terriers but if the labradoodle gets involved Cai can be a little snappy.

Cai may be able to be rehomed with cats and was previously in foster with them however it would need to be a dog savvy cat and confident owner.

Cai is confident and friendly with people and has met children of various ages from baby to teenagers. We would be looking for a home with school age children and above as he is on the go so much and may prove to be over stimulated with young children around.

Cai has started some basic training in his foster home but would benefit from some further input. He walks well on the lead and will sit and wait for a treat. He hasn’t been offlead yet out of the home environment and will need some socialisation.

Cai has struggled being left in the home during the daytime even with canine company but is fine crated overnight. At this time he wouldn’t be suitable for workers that work outside the home. Cai travels well in the car, is fab at the vets and while was a little possessive over his toys and food initially quickly learnt to share.

He is crate trained but will bark and whine initially. He is a blank canvas at the moment with regards to training and will need to attend training classes as has the potential to be a wee terrierist if not given enough mental and physical exercise. He is a bright dog who will give back as much as you put in.

In summary, Cai could be rehomed with other terrier sized dogs who are up for a good play session or as an only dogs with lots of human input. He needs further training and socialisation but is bright and clever and will give back as much as his new owners put in if not more.

All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered (if over 6 months), vaccinated, flea treated, wormed and micro-chipped prior to adoption. If a puppy is not old enough to be neutered then this must be carried out at the owner’s expense when old enough, and the relevant form completed by the vet and returned to Hope Rescue. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. Hope Rescue rehomes throughout the UK.
