Hi Jan, As you know I'm a complete computer numpty so consquently won't be of much help. I always thought though that windows automatically creates a system restore point whenever you change or add new programs or anything??? I would have thought there should be at least one there somewhere??

Sorry not much help I know.

If the box has been ticked, all previous restore points would have been erased.

Under control panel, system, system restore.

Thanks Kath - that's what I can't understand its always had loads of restore points but now it just says there isn't any and it won't go back further than July either which is a pain so if it goes wrong looks like I will have to do a complete recovery

No I didn't know you could turn it off - so I haven't knowingly done it but might have done it unknowingly Where are the system restore settings?

Have a look at the little slider thing below that box , mine is set to max ..if you've used up all the space allocated to restore points then it won't make any more
