Working with animals over Christmas

Aww those dogs

More than 900,000 people across the UK are having to work on Christmas Day - and that figure does not even include volunteers with charities.

BBC Breakfast heard from some of those workers, including London Zoo penguin keeper Vicky Fyson and Carole Margieson from the Dogs Trust in Manchester.

If you work with animals its part of the territory !
I didn't mind working at Christmas but going to work at the kennels News Years day was a drag especially if you had a hangover.

There's no such thing as bank holidays when you work with animals.

In the dog training field, bank holidays were often the busiest days because people were, of course, off work

Try milking 120 Fresians at 6am on Xmas day morning then the same again 12 hrs later plus the incidentals like feeding and watering, then there's your youngstock and followers to see to then pigs and poultry. Then the farm dogs and cats.
Easy as pie that farming lark! Like one big holiday.
I know folk that haven't had a day off for well over 50 years. Oddly enough - they never complain. It just comes with the territory.
