The puppy ate some grapes...

Our 4 month old puppy managed to jump up on the side today and get hold of a bunch of grapes. When discovered, he had eaten about half of them. I knew that grapes were supposed to be toxic to dogs, and can cause acute renal failure, so I googled it and now I'm worried he'll be dead in 24 hours... Thinking rationally, I know this is probably unlikely, but I'm still worried.
Unfortunately we didn't think to make him vomit until it would have been too late.
Does anybody know roughly how common it is for a dog to have a bad reaction to grapes? And how many grapes can be a fatal dose? If he ate the grapes at around 4.30 pm, when will we know for sure that he's OK?

One of mine has eaten grapes too, she was fine, but not a puppy, keep a close eye on your pup, and any sign of illness contact your vet. If you are really worried contact your vet now, and they will likely give you advice, and reassure you too.
Hope he is okay x

The exact mechanism for the toxic reaction is not precisely known. Some dogs can eat large amounts of grapes and raisins with no ill effects at all, others can become fatally ill with just a few ingested. It appears to be a genetic link, but again, its not fully understood.

My Labrador ate a bunch of grapes at around 5 months old. He didn't suffer any bad side effects.

Hope your dog is ok? x

Alcohol is toxic. Doesn`t seem to stop many people though.
It`s all about quantity and metabolism. Keep an eye on the pup and phone your vet if you have concerns.
