A new 'celebration' / holiday / event

Tang's thread gave me this idea!

Ok so we have Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Bonfire night - what else could we think of as an annual holiday or event to get excited about?

Jokey day? Everyone plays jokes on each other! (Guess we have April fools day for that, lol)

I dread to think what some of you might come up with

We have enough chances for card manufacturers to make a fortune already IMO and more than enough bank holidays. So not keen on any more.

Allowed to go to work with you ? Can just see that being allowed in the operating theatres and even in my job anyone want to see their offices cleaned by someone with their two dogs running around ? wouldn't even be safe for them in many work places !

Spa days ? they don't need or want and special food ? like what ? they have "special" food everyday stuff that suits their digestive systems and keeps them healthy.

I call most of the existing ones 'Hallmark Days'.

Cyprus has almost twice the number of actual Public Holidays that the UK has - a lot of them for Greek stuff, not Cypriot. We've just had a public holiday weekend replete with marching bands, processions, and all sorts for Greek Ochi Day - the day the Greeks said NO to the Germans in the last world war!

Anyone who uses bookface will know that almost every day of the year is a special day for summat!

International Womens Day
World Mental Health Day
Women's assertiveness day
Be nice to ugly people day
You name it

For sometime I've thought it would be nice if we could have a special SAD day
Shiftkey Abolition day for people who constantly type in all CAPITAL LETTERS!

No we like our religious festivals just where they are, and we even let non religious folk eat chocolate and have presents etc at the same time.

Oh no, don't move them, just hijack them with alternative secular bank holidays - after all, this is how the Christian festivals started in the first place

Not all public holidays in the UK are 'religious' ones though are they? Or have their 'roots' in religion? I mean I know Christmas and Easter are. But what about the May Days and the late Aug bank holiday and New Years Day (a quite recent one and one I think of as Hangover Day) introduced because so many people took it as a day off anyway after NYE celebrations.

Even Boxing Day doesn't have religious connotations does it?
