Wow that's a massive step I was chatting this morning to a chap who lost his dog 14 months ago, he was 15 a lab x GSD he said at times he thinks "yeap lets look into getting a dog" then he said "other days its the furthest thing from his mind" he said his wife would happily have another dog but he is the dog man. Suspect the same as yourself pretty much he said the dog was his "wing man"
