I'm a bit late in on this thread, but I work my older Cavalier Spaniel in Obedience, he's now in Novice (and A for a laugh, I'm his hinderance). I don't know how much further we'll go, am bringing on Number 2. However, he's done in the ring, most judges say he's a happy fellow which is enough for me. He usually loses marks on heelwork and goes clear or scores very low on the set exercises.
