Milbemax v Drontal (views please)

HI there,

I just wanted to ask whether anyone had any thoughts about Milbemax and Drontal wormers?

Our vets always used to perscribe Drontal, however now they are giving me Milbemax and I just wondered if the Milbemax was a better wormer than the Drontal ?

Does anyway have any experience and which would they recommend ?

I have given all my dogs Drontal for many years without any issues - any just wormed them on the Milbemax and so far so good - no diahoreah or vomiting .....etc

It was Panacur granules my dogs got, with no adverse effects at all. I decided to change to Drontal Flavour tablets because I didn't want to use the granules any more. Again, no adverse effects with this wormer either, just prefer tablet form.

Never used Milbemax.

our vet has also made this change, they believe it to be a better wormer xx

I don't by my wormer from the vets, I must ask them to see if our vet has changed aswell, although they always offered both Panacur granules and Drontal tablets.

Is Milbemax a tablet wormer?

Never used Milbemax, but never had problems with Drontal, so I'll stick with it, like the saying goes if it aint broke don't try and fix it!

Yes it's a little tablet ( I use it for all my dogs )

I believe Milbemax may have contraindications for Collies but I've never had any problems with any of the wormers and alternate between them to prevent resistance build up (by the worms that is not the dogs!)

My vet prescribes both when I asked the difference he said not a lot but milbemax was a lot cheaper. I use Drontal get it from canine chemists

Drontal is def safe for collies. not sure about the other one,

Studies with milbemycin oxime indicate that the margin of safety in certain dogs of Collie or related breeds is less than in other breeds. In these dogs, the recommended dose should be strictly observed.

Therefore If i had no probs with Drontal i wouldnt want to risk this with the Collies, no need if drontal is doing the job!
