Demedex - Home remedy

I've had Demi down the vets again today with a new vet and I'm so glad I did. They have taken skin scrapes and found demedex so all this fuss over allergies and yeast infections and the whole time the vet was wrong.
The vet has given her a steroid injection that lasts 24 hours to ease off the scratching and she has her first bath tomorrow.
My problem is, demi now has to go to the vets every Wednesday for a bath and its £80 each time. I can just about do that but like xena my staffy is slightly itchy as well. There is no marks or hair loss or anything like that so I'm hoping it won't get hold of her like it has demi but I was just wondering if there is anything I can buy to prevent or treat it myself if xena gets bad cause obviously if xena gets it and demi is clear surely xena will then pass it back to demi and it will just be a vicious circle and I can't afford £160 every week for them both to have the bath. Like I said at the minute xena is fine and demi is being sorted now by the vet but I'd rather prevent xena getting it than have to worry about curing it so does anyone know what I can get for her if anything?

Sorry maybe I'm being really thick ,but why can't the vet give you the stuff so you can bathe the dog yourself
£80 to bathe a dog seems excessive to me ,
You've also got stuff handy to treat your other dog if needs be
As I say I'm maybe being very thick
Hope it sorts you're dog out though

As Norma said, very expensive baths But alternative is advocate from the vets, it does fleas worms and demodex too, we got this for sasha (it's on prescription) so you probably will have to get the vet to agree to give it to you for xena as a preventative without all the tests???

I would be happy to do the treatment myself I wasn't given the option, I was told they need to do it wearing aprons etc

If this isn't the case then someone shout and I'll ring then up cause that may well be a lot easier and cheaper for me

Have a look online first, there are shampoo treatments available and also reviews.

Should the vet give me the treatment so I can do it? If that's the case I might ring them and just ask to buy the shampoo and do it myself.

While I'm here does anyone know if it's ok to bath xena in the same stuff if she hasn't got the mites just to prevent, I have a feeling she is going to follow suit but she's in the very early stages, plus staffies are prone to demodex so will it hurt her to treat it in case?

I'm by no means an expert (am sure someone with experience will.be able to help )
I would imagine as long as you followed the instructions carefully you could manage this yourself
Just hate the thought you may get ripped off
My vet would happily.allow us to do this our selves
However if you don't feel capable and can afford it ,sounds to me your vet has somewhat tied your hands re treatment
I'd still push the issue that your more than capable to do this yourself

Doesn't cost anything to ask, maybe mention about your other dog too. I' m sure the vet will advise you.
