Meat box - does this sound reasonable to you?

I've just been looking at the weekly meat boxes at the butchers at the farm shop I use.

You get all of the following:

2 x gammon steaks
1lb mince
6 x chicken thighs
1 x small whole chicken
1lb diced chicken or chicken breasts
1 x bacon (8 rashers)
8 sausages

And you get all that for £20.

I compared it to what we'd spend in tesco on meat and I reckon it's about on par with tesco.

We go through a lot of meat a week so I reckon it's worth it and at least I know it's decent meat instead of the watery rubbish you get in the supermarkets. I cooked lasagne the other day and drained about 200ml of fluid off the mince when it was cooked.

I have 1/4 a Dexter coming next month, and then 1/ 2 a Gloucestershire Old Spot coming in January. Far cheaper, than buying from the supermarket, plus the meats are raised in ethical manners, and of course, taste sublime!

Thats a good price-infact its a really good price! Theres a butcher in a nearby town which sells a similar thing, but charges much more by their ad in local rag.

I agree about how much fat there is in supermarket mince also.A while back i bought a large pack from Lidl for a bargain £2.50 and quickly discovered why it was so cheap.I dont think the carcass had the fat trimmed off before being butchered as there was a copious amount of liquid fat when i browned it in a saucepan.Never again.

ps.If you want to get rid of almost all the fat-add approximately 4-5 tablespoons of water to the mince once browned and give it a stir.Leave to simmer for a minute which allows the fat to float to the surface and drain as normal.

I would buy yet another freezer if I could buy a whole lamb for £100! You need a mortgage to even buy a shoulder of lamb here.
