Advertising puppys

i am a bit curious about what is thought of as a good way to advertise puppys. I have seen various threads on here about adverts seen and none seam to be favourable.
The types of ads ive seen are -
Posters and boards along the road
Free ads papers
Free ads websites
"the other side"
Specialist websites such as epupz

If none of these are correct, what methods do good breeders use?

Im asking this mainly as im thinking about contacting some breeders to discuss a frenchie pup and have no idea where to start. I did try emailing somebody at the breed club but never got a reply and thought this may be a good topic for discussion

A lot of breeders do not advertise their litters ..They will not have pups unless they have a waiting list ...
The kennel club have lists and so will the breed clubs ...

I found my pups via word of mouth ..

Hi Katy with many breed clubs if you contact the Secretary they will be able to issue you with a list of breeders who have signed up to the breed a code of ethics and who may have or intend having a litter.

Contact the breed club, they will reccomend breeders and probably have a puppy list.

I think breeders generally advertise on their own breed website, which they then list on specialist sites (like Breedia - when it's launched) or people find their site through google. That's how I generally research breeders - free-ad type sites are usually the bottom of the pile.

Breedia will have a litter register (that only premium listing breeders - ie those with a homepage on Breedia) will be able to submit their litter to. This should cut out BYBs (and we won't allow puppy farmers).

I would use a combination of the breed club and champ dogs.

Kennel Club, one of the breeders in the UK of your chosen breed, or the breed rescue.
Good luck.

The Kennel Club website has a puppy search on it, you select your area and breed type and it lists recently registered litters, including litter date of birth, litter size, how many males and females, and of course the breeder's contact details.

Obviously this doesn't mean all these puppies are looking for homes, but it could be a good start to getting in touch with breeders near you, finding out whether any pups are still looking for homes, meeting their adult dogs and, if you like them, finding out when other litters might be planned.

On champ dogs you can look for breeders who may not yet have a litter but could do in the near future, do all your research and get your name down before the litter is born rather than wait for them to be on the ground so to speak.
