Canicross - running with your dogs

Looks like fun - but I wouldn't wanna fall

Some people run. Some people have dogs. Some people like to combine the two.

Canicross is a kind of cross-country running with dogs. Runners attach themselves via a harness and bungee-cord to their canine friends - and then race.

As well as the exercise element - owners seem to enjoy the bonding it creates with their animals.

Canix UK has been running events for nearly 10 years and has seen a spike in popularity in recent months, with more clubs and events popping up around Britain.

Organisers say dog welfare is paramount, with running only allowed when the temperature is suitable and say the dogs love it as much, if not more, than their owners.

BBC News attended a race in Hampshire to find out what the appeal is.

And if you do not want to run...

...watch out for flying deer!

Never sure of this. Saw a bloke the other day riding a bike with a lovely collie running alongside. Because the dog stopped the bloke clouted the dog and told it off. Why? Please be sure if you do this kind of sport the dog does get to have a break. It can't tell you verbally, just stops. And then gets told off. Shame.

Brenda, Agnieszka was not riding a bike in the video clip I posted, it was a form of dog-sledding. And neither she nor her dogs were hurt by the deer.

They run this competition at Crufts every year, the track is round the lake at the NEC, from what I see, both dogs and owners love it, you need to be fit though .
