Tesco dog insurance

ive just dont a quote for the two dogs, as i really need to get them insured!

i dont think its too bad, but just wondered what others think. its £22.82 for the two dogs each month, and that is upto £2,500 for 12 months vets fees, and also the additional cover which includes loss of pet, emergency boarding, advertising if pet goes missing etc.

what do you guys think? any of you with tesco and have any good/bad experiences? do you reckon im getting a pretty good deal at near enough £23 a month for the two dogs?

I personally would want more than £2500 cover, and I would always go for lifetime cover. My experience with insurance was my last dog with hip dysplasia - we got more than our money's worth in claims and we didn't even go down the hip replacement route which was probably about £2000 per hip (she would have needed both done) so £2500 would be nothing really. Even without that, her condition stretched over years so a 12 month policy would have been useless to me.
With a smaller dog, it might stretch longer, but the kind of thing I want insurance cover for is the kind of thing I would struggle to afford - £2000 could go on my credit card and be paid off without too much hassle for £4000, £5000, £6000 would be more of a stretch. This year I went with Axa as the limit is £7000.

I have Tesco "extra cover" policy, I changed when Bandit reached 8 as the KC hiked his insurance up to a ridiculous amount, I have been extremely pleases with their cover and prompt pay out.

Mine cover includes....

£4000 per condition
£60 excess

Along with all the usual .

For both dogs (oldies) my cover this year was £122........not sure what it will be now its emended to just Millie.

But for the price and the cover for an oldie I have been extremey happy.

I have petplan llife cover which is excellent and got a voucher with the magazine today that give the first 2 months free to new policy if I give a recommendation, PM if you want the details , I think they are a bit more expensive than others though but good cover and never any quibbles about payment in my experience.

Now that Parker is an older dog (9) I have had to chop and change insurance to get a better deal. I have a Tesco policy with the same level of cover you have but if I had a younger dog I would want a higher level. AT Parker's age I would not put him through a lot of pulling about and operations should he become poorly as he is a sensitive little soul and not stoic like Cherry. From my experience of Cherry's eye operations the insurance money does not go far and we (fortunately) had £7,500 per condition for her insurance.

I have Summer with pet plan and have never had a problem, she had a skin condition several years back and she was referred to a specialist which cost quite a bit, they paid very quickly no questions, then at Christmas when she got pancreatitus it was nearly £4,000, again I was paid out quickly and no quibble. I wouldn't have anything other than a 'for life' policy, I know if Summer has pancreatitus again she's covered, with Tescos norma policy the pancreatitus would be excluded this year. I have just insured Keira with them as well, they are a little more than some insurers but they are reliable and vets know the payment is good, I didn't have a spare £4,000 to access in such a short time so my vets were happy to collect direct from the insurers x

I would always go for a lifetime cover (or equivalent) what ever company I went with.

But with many of these companies , their policy changes dramatically when the dog reaches a certain age, usually around 8, the premiums are hiked up to such a ridiculous amount , it becomes a challenge to pay .

If I had a young dog or puppy, I woudl probably go with one of the more well know companies (I was with the KC) , but having an oldie you have to shop around to find the best policy for your needs, and from my experience tesco has given us exactly what we needed.

I am with Tesco, same as you, 2,500 per condition as at the time I had 2 pedigree dogs and they were the cheapest for the 2. Now I only have 1 dog and he is 10 so not likely to be able to change now but he has ongoing condition which needs daily tablet policy will only pay till July and then we will have to pay. They have been very good at refunding what I have paid but take 28 days approx.
