Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, starving dog 'art'

Not sure if this has been posted before but the sheer horror of what this so called artist did needs some justice.

The pictures are hard to look at so be warned if you decide to go to the links on the page.

There was a thread about this before. The most accurate report I've read came latter and IIRC the artist wanted to highlight the huge number of stray and starving dogs in Nicaragua so he picked one at random and tied it to the wall in the art gallery. The dog was 'allegedly' fed and watered while in the building and according to the last report he was then released back onto the streets (Where he would have undoubtedly died quite soon)

Did it have any impact on the people and legislaters of Nicaragua I very much doubt it.

Was the artist justified in doing this Not in my opinion

Was it cruel to tie a dog up and have people walk by and look at it like some inanimate object - Yes, it was cruel no matter what the motivation.

Is the artist one of the 80% of the worlds human population who are just ignorant, uncaring, morons - YES

I did not think it was a hoax.

I read he did it to bring attention to the indifference of the worlds population to starvation and the like. (or something like that)

Still , two wrongs dont make a right...and it is disgusting . But properly proves his point in a way , for people to walk past this dog and see it die of starvation, with only a modicum of curiosity ....

I also read, he is going to do it again

Heidi - It always annoys me intensely that so many people don't understand the mentality of people in the media and similar fields. Recognition is the 'be all' and 'end all' in their view.

It doesn't matter if it's 'good' or 'bad' publicity, all that matters is that people are talking about them.

I think the OP should edit her post to remove the name of the so called artist and replace it with 'Anonymous Artist.......'

Just putting it on a public forum means it (he?) has achieved it's (his) gaol

It's a bit like the advert that a clothing company ran which was designed to shock. Never mind if the clothes were any dam good, or value for money, the main thing was people would talk about them and guess what, sales went up. Note that I'm refusing to name them.

Unfortunately it wasn't a hoax - but what i don't understand is the picture you see on you tube of the woman watching as she walks past - uncaring - and in the name of ART?????

I believe he was meant to do it again this year but the outcry and the petitions that were signed called a halt to it.

Why don't we do the same to him??? Would that be in the name of ART???
