Views on Alcohol

Would like to know peoples views on alcohol, do you drink it, in moderation, in excess. Have you had a bad experience, are you teetotal.

The reason I ask is this.. I have never been a regular drinker, when I was younger I would go to the pub and have a few drinks to socialise. Then as I got older I would drink with meals, and sometimes at the weekend.

Then realising that a close member of my family was a serious drinker, which then explained their unacceptable behaviour. They were eventually diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and were told this was due to the drink.

I rarely have a drink now, and haven't done so for a while. I cant say as i miss it either.

Another family member has lost their driving licence due to drinking also, so I do wonder if this probably has had a major influence on me.

Drink plenty and sleep it of and restart the next day in the same manner, sorry NO I don't know my mother is an Alcoholic and it's not nice to witness it day in and day out, I believe it should be moderate unless you are having a good night out and then you tend to have a blast so it depends on the individual

I do like a drink, but always make sure that I keep the amount I drink in check, making sure I can still say no if I need to. I don't really have any other vices so I guess I let myself have alcohol as one?

With having an alcoholic mother for most of my life I think I'm more aware than most (thankfully!) of the dangers of addiction including alcohol.

There are so many times when I look back as a kid and saw how very close she came to not only killing herself and me, but also others as she liked to drink and drive frequently.

Everything is fine in moderation and I think the problem comes when people just can't keep an eye on what they're doing.

I think it should be more heavily taxed ...put the prices up high. Too many people think it is great fun to get drunk and then cause trouble. Too many people get killed by drink drivers, too many streets are fouled by drunks peeing in them.

Vile stuff!

(Well, MY turn now after all the anti smoking threads )

I'm with you Mel. IMO, it's just as dangerous as drugs, yet it's freely available. My mother was an alcoholic......I still bear the scars, and my first husband was a violent drunk . Baz likes the occasional bottle of Bud when it's hot (the weather, not the Bud ) and so do I, and there's always Bailey's about at Christmas. I guess my view is moderation, moderation, moderation

I don't drink at all really. The only reason being that there's nothing that I really like

I do like a glass of Baileys at Christmas but it's too sickly to drink much more than that.

Gimme an Orange & Cranberry J20 anyday
