i tried to take a lovely gsd that i was dog sitting with me everywhere. she was fine on the train, well behaved and i met my sister and baby in a pushchair in birmingham. we found we couldn't really go anywhere together. i checked the doors of the bullring to see if i could take her in (not into the shops, just the walking area so i could look after the pushchair while my sister changed her baby) and we walked in cos there were no signs saying dogs aren't allowed.
we walked round and she was just getting her baby out of the pushchair when TWO security officers came over saying we couldn't be there...i stated there were no signs stating not allowed, so how was i to know...they still forced us out, i said i was waiting for my sister, but they made her come and take her big pram into the childrens tiny changing room and we were literally followed out like criminals...was mortifying! she hadn't done anything wrong and there were no signs.
later we were escorted out of the shopping centre above the train station even though we were on our way to get the train...

the point of my story is that when i have a dog i intend to socialise them everywhere i can, but if we are so limited as to where we can take dogs....how can we do this properly??? surely over time as more places ban dogs, the even less chances for socialising other than the beach...oh wait, lots of beaches ban dogs too...can't win!

sorry for the rant, in short, i would take my dog everywhere i'm allowed to....

Mum takes Poppy to the hairdressers with her. Now if you walk past the hairdressers, Poppy will stop and push the door open with her paw, then you have to go in for a chat. She can't understand why the door won't open on a Sunday!!

Oh Insomnia I know exactly what you mean about the barriers in the way of socialising dogs!
I am lucky mine can be trusted pretty much anywhere these days. Patches will still mug for food and has a tendency to make a bit of a fuss inititally if you leave him anywhere but such improvement.
Obviously as well, our wolfhounds size does sometimes effect where he can be taken but he is such a gentle giant that i have no fear of his b ehaviour wherever it is.

Tassle and Siren yes -

Gabe and Trip no.

Individually I possibly could, but Trip can get quite sound sensitive, Gabe can panic and then he leaps up me for reassurance and makes sad pathetic noises.

Having said that - Trip did a photo shoot in london once - had to be off lead in a really busy area and hold a carrier bag which she did really well - maybe I do not give her enough credit!

Siren has matured alot recently and will settle almost anywhere. Tass has always been chilled and taken things in her stride. She has done various TV studios and locations. The only thing she did not like was indoor fireworks.

In a word NO. Mya is terrified of people, and Len isn't overkeen on them either.

Roxy loves people and a fuss from them, but at 13 years old, she's unsteady on her pins, and sometimes has little accidents.

Murphy - yes, Max - depends

Murphy is almost bombproof... he has been all over the place with me, and I was so proud of him at last year's agricultural shows - livestock, horses, tractor pulling, hordes of kids and adults, loads of food around etc and he was a star!!

I went into the vegetable showing tent to collect my winnings (!) and it was heaving, and Murphy just stood next to be whilst I chatted to people, didn't blink an eyelid! We saw Christine Walkden from the BBC, who petted him and said how well behaved he was and asked about dog training etc cos she had just got a puppy. I was so pleased with him!!

Max is OK, and is generally fine with most of the stuff Murphy is, but he is unpredictable with other dogs.

I'd happily take mine to the shops etc, but Tesco and Sainsburys don't let dogs in!!! Shame - I could harness them up to a trolley and be round in superquick time!

yes, they are pretty well behaved,

though I could take them to kick boxing, it wouldnt work if say for example my son was up there, the min they seen someone laying the boot in to him they would go mental...

but if it were strangers, yup no problem

Have mutt, will travel. My Moxie goes everywhere she's allowed with ease. She's a gem with kids, carts, cars, dogs, cats, and anything else that we might happen across. When we lived in Mexico she went EVERYWHERE with me, I think she misses that.
