The Christmas beef

We usually have a big joint of beef from the farm butcher but neither Tassle nor I wanted to queue for hours so my mum and I bought an Asda joint.

I think maybe I cooked it a bit fast although it was in for longer than recommended---anyway it was as tough as old boots---probably tougher actually. So I put it in the slow cooker with a load of wine and onions and garlic early this afternoon.

Can anyone tell me why it is now tougher than it was before?

Dogs are going to enjoy it anyway and I am going to roast the potatoes I put in it. That should make for an interesting taste sensation.

Blimey, no idea - maybe it wasn't beef after all but the remains of a disgruntled employee? A slow cooker should have rendered it into insignificance. (I always think they do the same job as the slow oven on an Aga). The dogs should have fun anyway!

Oh dear, I've got a joint of (Sainsburys) beef for Thursday. I never manage to get tender beef. Anyone got any beef roasting tips?

Sorry to hear this, Rune.

We had a rolled rib joint from Tesco and it was completely lush!

It cost £16, but it was so worth it.

It has been on all night and you can now just about get a fork into it-----I think I may have done it in too much wine though----can such a thing happen??? I don't do slow cooking as I don't like stews and soups and things.

Never again, next year I queue!
