Hello friends. I decided to buy wireless fence for my dog to control his movements in yard but dont know which one I must choose.

I think using an e-collar under direct control is a bad idea, I really can't see an automated solution as being a good idea either.

If you fence your yard properly there is no need for anything else

I don't like or condone punishment as a training technique in any form.

Though it welcomes international members, this is a UK based forum. Negative training methods, such as electric bounderies and e-collars, are considered unethical by the majority of people over here. They are already illegal in Wales, and may become so in Scotland. This may help to explain the number of negative responses that you have received.

Wait.... these things shock the dog if it goes outside a certain area?

Woh. Way to give your dogs psychological problems about going out.

Not exactly. The usual scenario is to have them on the boundary of a large property, such that the dog has the run of a large area but cannot go further than the boundary fencing without sustaining a belt.

I agree with your sentiments though - sure fire way of turning a dog into a nervous wreck.

I'd never use one, if I couldn't afford a proper fence around the entire property then I'd fence off an area I could afford and know my dog was safe. I don't really like the idea of dogs roaming a large area alone.

I live on a half acre plot with large empty plots either side of mine and acres of fields and woods at the back of my land.

In order for neither of my dogs to roam, but to give them a large area to explore in, I had just over 1500 sq metres of the land nearest to my house, enclosed with 6 ft high sheep fencing, which if I remember rightly cost around £600 but well worth it!
