A Poem for Steve & Abe

GOLDEN MEMORIES OF ABE

THEY SAY MEMORIES ARE GOLDEN, WELL, MAYBE THAT IS TRUE,
I NEVER WANTED MEMORIES, I ONLY WANTED YOU.
A MILLION TIMES I CRIED
IF LOVE ALONE COULD HAVE SAVED YOU, YOU NEVER WOULD HAVE DIED.
IN LIFE I LOVED YOU DEARLY, IN DEATH I LOVE YOU STILL,
IN MY HEART YOU HOLD A SPECIAL PLACE THAT NO-ONE ELSE COULD FILL.
IF TEARS COULD BUILD A STAIRWAY AND HEARTACHE MAKE A LANE,
I'D WALK THE PATH TO HEAVEN AND BRING YOU BACK AGAIN.
OUR FAMILY CHAIN IS BROKEN, AND NOTHING SEEMS THE SAME.
BUT AS GOD CALLS US BACK ONE BY ONE, THE CHAIN WILL LINK AGAIN.

Oh I know what you mean, every time I read a post like this , as well as feeling immensely sad for the owner concerned, it brings back vivid memories of the pain I felt when my dog Stein passed. I guess when you've been there it's so easy to empathise. The only thing I'll say is that, now, when I think of Stein, the memories are as happy as they are sad. I miss him madly still, always will I know, but boy did he change my life. That's how you'll feel too Steve. It will always be sad, but, it won't always be so painful.

Yes I know how you feel Millies mum, I am sat here crying too and trying very hard not to in case my four year old notices. I lost my dog last year at 6 years old after a short illness and it hurts like hell so I know how Steve will be feeling, I just hope he is okay because he loved Abe so much

Beautiful Helen, it says it all. And as Sian says it strikes a chord for everyone who has loved a dog and lost it.
