Instead of the normal rye grass lawn, I have a wild flower meadow grass lawn - just coming into its own now, with the pink campion flowering, which the bees love, and ox eye daisies to name just a couple. Its great because it doesn't have to be mown - at the end of September we scythe it and rake up the cuttings and throw them over the hedge into the field so that the seeds germinate out there on the field margin. It's brilliant and saves that ghastly chore of cutting the grass once a week, plus it is awash with honey bees, bumbles, crane flies and loads of other bugs and grubs for the birds. I will never return to a boring ryegrass lawn ever again.

oooo, i would love to do that...can't do it in the back garden because of Deagan and not out the front as we have to keep the lawn neat, i wonder could i pop some up the field around the fence line...the mower doesn't go right to the edge so i am sure it would grow o.k. Thanks Brenda!
