Newby

Hello all. My name is Lyndell and I am looking for some answers to questions about my 3 ShihTzu's.

Our Xena is on Cardial for a heart valve problem but her heart rate is high even at rest. Is this normal? She is almost 14 and going deaf and blind but otherwise is as active as a puppy. She also has a terrible itching problem she has had for years and other than Cortisone shots is there anything else that can help her stop scratching?

Peaches (10) is also scratching. They have no fleas or ticks so that is not the issue. Peaches had a severe case of sturvite (?) stones last year. Over 50 stones and two were 7/8" in diameter. They were surgically removed. She is on special food. What is the chance of them recurring?

Koko (9) is doing well except for the fact that he had been mistreated and malnourished before I adopted him so he is a little arthritic but otherwise doing OK. His tongue is too long and hangs out all the time but he is cute as a button.

We love all out Babies and want to do what is best for them so here we are asking for your assistance.

Thanks all.

Hello Lyndell

I am sorry that I cannot give you any advice about your Shih Tzus and hope that someone more knowledgeable than I will see your post and give you the advice you need.

In the meantime

Would the itching be a heat related problem or mites?

your own vet would be more familiar with doggie problems in SA

How to post photos videos will tell you how. Many people use PhotoBucket but I use TinyPic because it is much easier for me. The step-by-step instructions for TinyPic are at the end of that post, after the instructions for PhotoBucket.

I look forward to seeing photos of your babies!

I love them,mine is 11
Poor Peaches,50 stones removed Fingers crossed that'll be the end of that.Xena..14,Aww bless her How could anyone mistreat an animal? .poor boy but great to hear he's now in safe hands
Just wondering if they are scratching all over or mostly around their ears?Vet visit would be best of course but mine went through a stage of scratching her ears a lot turned out to be an infection. After being treated by the vet,she was fine,no more scratching

I've always bathed itchy dogs in an oatmeal bath! Fill a sock with some oatmeal when it's wet and the dog is wet squeeze the residue over the dog and massage through its fur it calms the skin and stops the irritation my friend also did it when her dog had really itchy eczema and it's cheap which is a bonus hope this helps

Hello and welcome.
What do your dogs eat, one of your dogs could be allergic to something in the food.
I have a 17 month old Shih Tzu, but we have only had him for 7 months.
