Diet advice for dogs with Cushings disease

My 8 year old westie/schanazzer cross has cushings disease and is on vetoryl 60ml, he has Naturediet food, several people have told me high protein food is better for him I am thinking of doing my own food, has anyone any idea how to do this, don't want to ask the Vet as I am sure he will sell me something to make money for him.

Nellie - Have you researched the BARF diet - Feeding raw could be the way to go. Obviously no sudden changes just ease your little one into the new regime over 8 to 10 days till the new food takes over completely. Then you can choose the high protein elements within the diet to suit both your pet and yourself. Hope this helps! There is plenty on Dogsey about raw feeding and you could computer search BARF to save my being repetitious.

This is what taught me about the BARF diet and I still refer to it at times.

A rough BARF guide

I cannot source green tripe here and am limited with the types of meat/bones I can buy, so I adjust Pereg's diet using that post as a rough guide and adjust it according to what I can get.
