How much does your dog cost to keep?

I have just been working out roughly how much we spend in our dogs' lifetimes and am shocked. You might notice things I have missed off. The figures below are for our 2 dogs and don't include what we paid for them.

Food and treats 456 per year.
Insurance 240 " "
Collars and leads 75 " "
Flea prevention 240 " "
wormers 204 " "
Vaccinations 70 " "
Toys/Training Classes/bowls 90 " "
______
1319
______

I haven't included things like insurance excess, travel, holiday expenses.

If they live for 15 years we will have paid out around 20,625!!!!

Just sat and worked it out.

Insurance: 450
Food and treats: 210
Collars leads: 65
De fleaing: 60
Worming: 40
Vacs: Can't remember price of boosters.
Training: 420
Toys bowls beds: 200

Grand total : 1445

Just a question how much to you pay for your worming tables. I pay around 5 for drontal plus which I give every 3 months. Should I be giving it more often?????

Thinking about it roughly...

Food: 516
Treats/bones: 100
Insurance: 468
Flea + worm treatment: 100
Misc vet treatment: 100
Toys + other accessories: 100

Total: 1385

Not as bad as I was thinking!

We have to use the Drontal Plus for large breeds which are 17 for 2 in Asda Pharmacy because Ruby and Dyson are 33 kilos each. I do them every month because where we live there are plenty of foxes, deer etc and Dyson particularly has a fettish for eating dead animals like mice.

Really, my dogs cost me hardly anything, OH's bosses pay for food and vets bills. They don't wear collars, and my slip leads are rarely used. It's only worming tablets that cost me alot, but OH and I half the cost of them. (It doesn't work out fair though, I have 2 dogs, he has 6!) The only thing that I buy more frequently than other things is bedding but I try to get bedding that I can wash! (Unless its been torn into a million pieces). They aren't that into playing with toys, so I have my training dummies and few toys that only come out when we play, so they know dummies = training, and toys are just for fun.

If we had to pay for everything for them, then we would, but we are fortunate, as the dogs are seen as a part of OH's job, he's expected to have them. To the bosses, the dogs are just a tool, so they dont mind providing dog food and such.

With 2 dogs, 4 cats and 2 large fish tanks I shudder to think! But they are my enjoyment and I don't smoke, drink regularly or spend money on clothes and entertainment. They are my entertainment!

ETA apart from the odd concert that is!
