Backfires on me sometimes though as we were in the garage and I had pointed out to Jamie that the sign on their van was incorrect as it had "MOT's" instead of "MOTs".

Jamie told the owner of the garage when he came back I pointed out diplomatically that it was the sign writer's mistake rather than his!

We regularly get e-mails from top managers with basic errors in such as this and it does look a bit ignorant in my opinion.

"Potato's for sale" is a sign you often see in laybys (sp? ) in Norfolk too!

My OH would agree.

At least you put the apostrophe in the right position in 'ain't'.

EXACTLY!!!! I was discussing the use of formal and informal language with a class of 11 year olds today, they were all able to distinguish between the two! A forum, like Dogsey, is an informal setting for the exchange of ideas/information about dogs. The clue is in the name of the forum. The context defines the style of language used; in this case the language style is informal.

Yes, spelling/grammar/punctuation are important, but I do
not judge people if they make mistakes. We are all different, we all have different gifts. I try to see beyond mistakes.
The fact remains that for some jobs the ability to spell, use the correct grammar and punctuation is vital.

It is no use in pretending otherwise.

Thus it is vital that the right people are employed in the relevant roles where they can shine.

In any event, the amount of help available nowadays make inept CVs inexcusable, which means if I open a CV which is poorly written, badly spelled, with little or no punctuation it will get filed under "B" for bin.

These are the realities of life.
