Can you show a pregnant bitch?

I dont own a bitch but i was talking to someone about proper open/champ show rules id seen in booklets id picked up at companion shows for open shows mainly and never found out the answer to the above,i know it would probably be an unwritten rule but thought id ask anyway and obviously i dont mean one thats above to drop,i mean in the first few weeks.

Yes you can. Some people do and some people don't. My personal opinion is that pregnancy is not an illness so if your bitch is happy then why not? Of course you have to weigh up the risks of kennel cough etc. and make an educated decision. My friend showed her bitch in whelp this year at a local show and was slated for it - by a person who had shown their in whelp bitch overseas the year before.

Bitches also compete in other disciplines when pregnant.

It's certainly not allowed in other animals - cats, for instance where pregnant or lactating animals must not be shown, and that goes for most smaller animals such as rats, mice, cavies etc.

Not sure about rabbits, but pregnancy isn't always clear very advanced, but of course if lactating that's pretty obvious as they will have pulled out most of their coat.

What other disciplines? Think agility would be too risky.

All disciplines, I fail to see why agility would be "too risky", in foal mares are also jumped, and the odd female athlete has competed when pregnant too.

I carried on training in Karate during my first pregnancy until 8 months along and even passed two grades and competed (in kata not sparring). In my second pregnancy I had to stop at 6 months due to heart probs. I feel as long as the bitch is happy and the owner is LISTENING to her, fair enough.
