This is necessary because we aim to archive all the posts, and if at some point in the future we find ourselves needing a quick answer to a particular problem, we can search the Dogweb database and hopefully find a similar topic that has previously been covered – this is the reason we keep the posts in the threads on-topic, so that the information sought can be found quickly without having to wade through lots of other banter (which may well be ‘nice’, but will probably just get in the way of tracking down information).
