Shy Sherry - Kelpie X
Sherry is 9 years old and we think she is a Kelpie Cross. She is in an Oldies Club foster home in East Grinstead, West Sussex.
Lovely, placid Sherry came into Oldies Club care after a period home alone and a number of weeks in kennels. She only took a few days to settle into her foster home.
Sherry is a lively girl and would suit a fairly active household. She is a bit unfit at the moment, but when she’s lost some weight she should be happy to go for decent length walks. Indoors, she prefers things a bit quieter, so wouldn’t be happy with very young and bouncy children or dogs. She’d be ideal for someone who likes walks and would enjoy training her and teaching her some tricks - she has the brains for it!
With new people Sherry is quite reserved and shies away when they want to stroke her. She comes for cuddles in her own time, especially when the person has treats! She is happy to be left alone for a few hours. She is good with dogs (although she will tell off youngsters who are too over the top) but she would also be happy as the only dog. We don’t know whether Sherry could live with cats. She is fine with gentle children.
Sherry is good on the lead. She sniffs a lot, so mainly walks slowly as she takes her time. She only pulls when she finds an interesting smell. Her foster mum is working on Sherry’s recall and, as she enjoys her food, she seems very responsive to training. She is fine in the car and her favourite pastimes are sleeping and eating! She enjoys a sniff around the garden but doesn’t really play with her toys.
We understand that Sherry is neutered, and she is vaccinated, flea and worm treated. We will update on her health details after her vet check, but she seems to be healthy, just slightly overweight.
Sherry’s foster mum tells us:
She is a lovely dog. She actually ran today and I could see lots of potential for her future when she loses some weight. She could be a very active dog. She is happy to go out and every time I go to the front door, she is behind me, ready to go. She is quiet in the house, we just had the occasional bark when she was wound up by another dog. She is clean indoors and can be left without problems. A brilliant dog!
