Evening Mandy.
Enjoy the visit with mum bet you are very excited.
Kazz the me time sounds a very good idea.

I have been out to Kings Lynn today with Beth. Gill's ramp is in and I emailed the secretary of the MP dealing with things to let her know that was happening and she replied with let's hope the stairlift arrives tomorrow. Haven't mentioned that to Gill and Peter. So fingers crossed. A little annoyed with Peter when i checked her pressure mattress arrived and the ramp was actually done and Peter moaned they won't replace the gate that is rotting and also it wasn't on their work sheet and he put it there years ago.
Anyway it was done for Gill and she now seems to be getting what she needs.
Beth says they have some interest in the flat but the people have to sell their house the agent has both properties so hopefully they will start pushing.
Bad news is Michael's girlfriend Maca's younger brother has been diagnosed with cancer. Hodgkins they do say he is young and fit so hopefully should beat it and Beth said it is one of the better ones to have re: being able to cure it.

Hope everyone and all four legged friends are well today.

Evenin' all. Hope those with ailments are on the mend and that all others are doing fine.

Yes, quiet here But busy for me being on the phone most of the day providing technical support for a couple of guys on site. Interesting but a bit of pressure. No escape.

Just back from what should be the last for the day. Black dog on a dark wet evening can be a bit of a challenge.

'evening Mandy, Lynn, Besoeker

Had computer problems this morning. Don't know what happened but our lovely PC lady sorted it out remotely.

Being able to access our PC remotely is helpful to her and ourselves but I do worry a bit about security, however I know where she lives and have no reason to think she would do anything nasty, and allegedly she can't get back in after logging out without one of us giving her a new 'majic number'

New batch of Cardiosure arrived for Casey this morning so he now has plenty, of course at four a day it'll not be long before another order has to go in willbe at the vets next week so will see if he has to keep taking th eother meds.

Casey is your dog? Sorry, I'm not up to speed with these things........

Computer problems can be a nightmare. And I also worry about security. Fortunately, our neighbour is ace with them. We had one that we took back to PC World.
"Can't be fixed."
They hadn't even taken the cover off. Naughty. Just wanted to sell us new kit.

Our kindly neighbour had a look. Fixed it with two £0.20 capacitors on the power supply.

Going back to remote access, the plant my guys were working on today was power electronics on a rather different scale. It controls the speed of a 3,000 HP motor. Not very forgiving if you get it wrong, not to mention very expensive!

When we first pit it in, them rather than it, there are two, I and a couple of other engineers had remote access. We could view all the parameters and change them. For safety reasons, that was disabled. Somebody with a grudge could screw it up right royally or start or stop it remotely.

Evening all, as Mandy said, it's very quiet on here today.
I see there is talk of capacitors, power electronics and computers, please excuse my not joining in but I fear my knowledge of such things is found very wanting. For some reason the topic is beyond my ken! I'm much more at home with countryside matters and things of that ilk.
Glad you have a decent supply of tabs in store for your Casey, they seem to work well for him, as you mention his readiness for walkies etc.
Lynn - good to hear that there is some action for your Gill - it's not before time from what I've read on here, she has been treated shamefully. There should really be some redress available to her and Peter. I must say I think your help has been of tremendous assistance to them both, even if they were both a little too tired and ill to realise this!
Things here tick over as usual, although I must admit I do an awful lot less than in days of yore! Weather is poor even for here and I'd love a few days sunshine.
Not to worry, see you all tomorrow, bye fer now!

Specialist knowledge. Power electronics particularly. And not something I would expect many would have in-depth knowledge of. So nothing to be excused for.

It has been good for me in a few ways. It got me to quite a few different countries, more than most get the opportunity to visit. And see things. Some more than others stick in my mind. Sahara desert, Taroko George, The Karroo, the Hittite cave dwellings........enough.

But, closer to home, it helped me help my children with school work. Physics and mathematics particularly but also English from having to write manuals and reports etc.

Moving back a few decades, I grew up on a farm in Scotland. A lot of land and a lot of sheep. We had a shepherd come in for the lambing season which was around the school Easter holidays so I got to help with that.

It was remote, nearest town and school were six miles away. And on high ground. The winters could be harsh. But I did get to learn about the countryside - first hand.

My job got me about a bit too, Besoeker, my early adult life was spent going to exotic interesting places and meeting exotic interesting peoples, who then did their level best to blow me up, shoot me or employ any number of different tactics to part me from my breath! As you may have guessed this was in the Military.
With the exception of serving Her Majesty the majority of my life has been spent in agriculture, I did though find a way to avoid having to pay a lambing assistant. One of my helpers just happened to be a tall, slender and rather beautiful young lady - so I married her! lol ! Not just to save money though, I hastily admit. So now I have a hill shepherd on permanent call should the need arise for such services.
I have no idea at all why I fail to grasp electronics and computers - I suspect that it just isn't my cup of tea as such things never interested me even when I was a lot younger. It must just be a case of each to their own and it seems now in my seventies I am hardly likely to wake one morning with the desire for new skills. Goodnight.

Not your cup of tea and that's fair enough. Nor is it for many. I kinda fell into the power electronics field. I was offered a job in that sector mainly because I had a little prior experience. Then I was headhunted and the rest is history.

I didn't dislike the farming but engineering was always what I'd wanted to do. It is heavy on mathematics and physics and these are often perceived as hard subjects which seems to put people off. Not much new blood coming into the discipline.

A little tale that got me thinking about this. Myself, my chief engineer, and the customer's consultant were commissioning some kit in a naval dockyard.

As is the case during commissioning, it is often hurry up and wait. So, while we waited, we sat around - and waited. And had a cup of tea. The consultant was in his late sixties, I was around sixty, and my chief engineer in his fifties.

I remarked at the time that commissioning this sort of gear was a young man's game - prepared to go anywhere at the drop of a hat. But there we were, three old fogeys.
