Cant get on to the internet.

I am having terrible trouble with my desktop. I cant get onto the internet. At first I thought it was Virgin Media, but they have said it is working fine and my son tried his laptop in our modem and that works fine. The virgin media man did a check on our computer and said that we were inundated with spy ware. He told us to get someone to download Spybot and Adaware on to a disc and clean up the computer. Well we have done this with Adaware and it did find 100`s of spyware. But evertime we put the Spybot disc in it wants to update, which of course it cant because we cant get on to the internet.!!!!!! I feel I am going round in round in circles and am never going to find a way out. Has anyone got any suggestions. I am at the moment using my sons computer.

Use a USB drive to transfer the updates to the desktop.
