An animal's DNA is it's genetic make up & stands for
Deoxyribonucleic acid.
DNA research is basically into the dog's full or part
Genome & is usually linked to a suspected or known genetic condition.
Depending on the breed there made be no, one, a few or several DNA tests.
The main DNA testing company is
Optigen in the USA & The
AHT in the UK & there are some others
The DNA tests that should be done on breeding animals before being bred from depends on the breed & the
KC do have a sort of list of tests that should be done, but IMHO if there is a test available & the dog isn't from generally normal parents, then all available tests should be done
