Thanks.

I do feel a bit down about it because I hoped he'd be completely back to his usual self by now. But it's still early days, I know.

Loki has been on Pb for what, just over a month now, so it is still very early days. Is he still drinking/urinating excessively, and does he still have increased hunger as when he first started on it?

It is so difficult trying to get the right balance of medication to reduce the frequency of seizures while trying to avoid the side effects, and sometimes you think that whatever you do it is just not going to get any better. You just have to do your best and hope that things settle down, sooner rather than later.

Thanks Malka

No, his hunger levels are pretty normal now (i.e. always up for food ). He isn't drinking excessively or urinating - he has always been one to keep loads back and cock his leg on everything . The best thing is he's not doing that awful hyper behaviour or crying.

I'm pleased things seem a little better this time Linda, even if not quite as perfect as we'd hoped.

What dosage is he on now? I was amazed how much difference half a tablet a day made to Rocky - I wonder whether your vet might suggest increasing dose while decreasing the Bromide (wonder if it's the combo that he's reacting to?).

*bug hugs* try not worrying, I know how much you do that!

xx

Yesterday evening I was chatting via webcam with someone here in Israel who has an epileptic Basset, and she managed to pick him up so that I could see him. He is 7 years old and is also on Kbr and Pb as Loki is.

The poor dog is so ataxic that he can hardly stand and her vet has now decided that the ataxia is probably due to the combination of the two drugs, so she is going to try to wean him off the Kbr and as his liver function levels are good, to increase the Pb.

(((huggles))) xx

Thanks Azz and Malka. He's still just on the 30 mg twice a day. We reduced the bromide by half a pill when we started the pheno but it takes a while to get out of the system.

Our vet said she doesn't think it could be the combination but I agree it may be a possibility and we may look at reducing it further once we get a feel for how the fits are being managed, if that makes sense?

It hasn't affected his strength - he can still pull like a steam train!
