Training a dog to be a service dog for someone who has depression

To Whom This Concerns:
My name is Melissa and I was just wondering how I can train my Great Dane, Max, to become a service dog for me as I am currently struggling with deep depression issues. I eventually want to get Max certified as a Canine Good Citizen and as a therapy dog as I am pursuing a career as an Occupation Therapy Assistant. (OTA.) I believe in the power that pets have to help people and II would to be able to take Max everyone with me, but I don't where to start. What's your advice?

Thanks,
Melissa

You may be better asking on a US based forum as we dOnt have owner trained service dogs in the UK as a general rule.

as someone who has a family member who is clinically depressed you would be in no position to be training a dog to assist you that needs to be done by someone really who is divorced from your situation, my family member somedays does not get out of bed due to the fact he just cannot function due to depression.
That is not a criticism of you by the way, just an opinion.

just to add no reason why you cannot train and enjoy your dog and i firmly believe having a dog really can help just that level of training required may be beyond someone who has the kind of swings of emotion that i have seen but eh never say never.
