Type - how important is it for your breed?

How important do you think type is to your breed.

Obviously first must come health, but I personally think its very important to have good type in a breed ,if you look at a dog and cant decide what breed it is what is the point in havin a breed.

i agree Pete
although i dont believe the stafford breed would have the following it does if there was only one 'type' for example if they were all 'terrier type' then i would have probably opted for a boxer or an AB as i like the bully look, i think you can tell a true staff whether it is terrier or bully, the rest is personal preferance.
if there was only one type of a breed then would that mean that more would be shoved off into rescues or rehomed if they didnt turn out? (just an concern )

but if all were to type say like a welsh terrier or a rotty or a lab ,there wouldnt be how they turned out, cause if they were to type they would look very similar.

They only look similar to me cause they aint my choosen breed. I know for a fact most people I know who know nothing about bull terriers lump all in the same category and quite often think they look alike and cant tell the difference seems mad to us because we can but that is only cause we know - lol not making a clear point here am I ? .

But do you get that? Some dogs are rangy & lean some small & stocky but generally if you are around them you can tell which are staffords and which are not even if you dont prefer that certain type.

even a breed standard gives a height variation lowest and highest, same with weight etc, staffs are allowed rose or half p r i cked ears, huge variation in colour etc, if standards were too 'strict' i fear a lot of dogs would be rehomed if they didnt turn out. personal preferance of the breeder and the people on their waiting lists goes towards what is wanted................or not?
for example why did you chose a Knockon dog? was it the look, the name, the colour? something about the Knockon line drew you to that kennel ?
